A FREST START THROUGH CHAPTER 7

When you are struggling with debt, it can seem like there is no end to bills, balances and collection calls. At Comfort Law Office in San Mateo, California, we can help you find a solution for a new beginning.
If you are burdened by debt and creditor harassment, you owe it to yourself to explore your options, including bankruptcy liquidation or debt negotiation.

We have limited our practice to bankruptcy law to provide focused service. Our firm serves consumers and businesses throughout the Bay Area. Our founding attorney, Michael G. Comfort, has more than 34 years of experience. He has represented thousands of consumer and small business clients in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. He has lectured on consumer bankruptcy topics at the civic, college and professional levels, and has been quoted in CNN News, USA Today and the Kiplinger Letter, in addition to appearing on Public Television on a local and national level.

DIMINISHING DEBT

Through Chapter 7 bankruptcy, we can help prevent or stop foreclosure on your home, repossession of your car and the garnishment of your wages. Our priority is helping you let go of financial worry while keeping your property.
Chapter 7, also known as liquidation bankruptcy, allows you to eliminate unsecure debt such as:

  • Credit card debt (including lawsuit Judgments)
  • Medical bills
  • Unsecured loans
  • Certain Personal Income Tax Debt over 3 years

Chapter 7 will not, however, discharge debts such as child support, student loans or recent tax obligations.
We can help you determine your eligibility for Chapter 7 based on a means test. If you do not qualify or you have significant assets that would not be protected under Chapter 7, we can help you file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
We will thoroughly evaluate your case based on your marital status, whether you have filed for bankruptcy before, what property you own, your recent financial activity, your outstanding debts, and what your objectives are. We will then work with you on a strategy to eliminate as much debt as possible.

CHAPTER 7 BUSINESS BANKRUPTCY

If you own a small business that is in serious financial trouble, Chapter 7 will allow you to liquidate the business so that you can move ahead with your life.

If you did not form your business as a corporation or limited liability company (LLC), you are very likely personally liable for its debts. A personal Chapter 7 bankruptcy will discharge all non-tax debts incurred by your business.
However complex your financial troubles may be, you can rely on us to help you overcome them. We will serve as a resource and a guide throughout the bankruptcy process, and we pride ourselves on our accessibility and responsiveness.
